While I’m enjoying my weekend and trying to find the motivation to finish up my Australia blog, I’ll leave you with a nice photo I took at the beach this August between Jacksonville and St. Augustine, Florida. One of the many reasons I would actually like to pack up and move down there.

I finally got the film developed from the roll I took with a disposable waterproof camera in Key Largo. My cousin, Sara, works down there in a kayak shop right on the beach and quite frankly, it’s amazing.
I was lucky enough to go on a four hour kayaking trip across the water and through the mangroves with her and one of the regular kayaking guys. Honestly, it was incredible and these photos don’t do the whole ride any justice at all. The water was crystal clear, there were thousands of little fishes under our boats the whole time, and we got to get out and go for a swim mid-way through the trip.

If I already didn’t want to move down there and try to find a job already, this makes me want to move down there even more. Don’t know where I would end up in Florida, but the beaches and weather there make me an extremely happy person.
And apologies for the awful quality of the digital images – the film ones aren’t that great either. Thanks Walmart for royally effing up my photos. I guess I should look into a waterproof point-and-shoot, eh?

For a project at school and of my own, here are four images from, well, a whole bunch of a commercial fashion spread that I had been wanting to do for a long time. Thanks to my model, Allie, and my artistic/makeup/hair director, Caysie.

So… I’ve been thinking a lot about my senior thesis that I’ve got to present, hang, and do all that fun stuff for this upcoming November-ish time. Really, I wish I had a whole year to work on this and wish that the school would give me a grant or something so I could really do what I would absolutely LOVE to do… which is get in my car, drive across the country, take pictures of almost everything and journal about it then work my journal into my statement.
I’ve wanted to go on a solo cross country road trip since, well, forever. But really this blog inspired me to really do it while I’m basically uncommitted to work, people, etc. Vespa Vagabond is a blog that is written by the same woman who updates The Daily Coyote. Really, just looking at her photographs and reading about what she experienced is enough to make almost anyone want to go on an adventure. I just couldn’t do it on a Vespa because I’m too much of a wuss when it comes to cold and I’ve never driven anything motorcycle-esque before. And I would like to take a few more items of clothing and a few more cameras with me. Yeah, I’m not as hardcore.
But really, if I could pull that off for a thesis, that would be awesome. If I wasn’t already going on a super-fantastic trip to Australia this summer I totally would take that month and photograph as much as I could photograph. Really. But Australia presented itself at exactly the right time and I’m almost happier I’m going there.
Still, this does not resolve my problem concerning lack of senior thesis. I’ve thought about a few things but nothing has popped out so far. Below is a list of what I’ve been pondering over (loosely and specifically) and I would definitely appreciate any suggestions or ideas if anyone out there has any!

  • Abstract equestrian photographs – all black and white – sort of turning the horse and maybe parts of the rider and equipment into “landscapes”
  • A friend suggested to me doing images of the south. This would involve a lot of driving around and would include a lot of different things. While I would really love to do this because it’s smaller scale than driving around the country, I still don’t know if I would have enough time
  • I’m developing this strange fascination, borderline obsession, with swamps. If I could drive around and get people to take me out in boats and things I would love to shoot photographs of swamps exclusively. However, I’m not sure how this would fit in with a thesis
  • Incorporating my trip to Australia, somehow, into the thesis. I’m not sure how I would do this, but I’m so in love with Australia that I might be able to find a way.

While I’m in Florida right now trying to get warm, only not really get that much warmer, I promised some Spanish Moss photos from Savannah. Here they are.
We’re going camping tomorrow and then I will most likely update after that.

And just a random photo of the swamps that I’m quickly falling in love with.
