The barn that I ride at had a show on Sunday… I’m still working on getting all of the photos up on my website, etc., etc.. But I thought that I would share a glimpse of the first class of the day – the Open Confirmation class was… quite full.

I thought I would share a funny little story relating to this photo.
I was in Sweden, about an hour’s train ride south of Stockholm, staying in a town called Nyköping. I had found that there was a large area of park reserve to the north of the town and decided to go hiking in the snow up there. Hiking in the snow to take photos for my class in Italy turned into the day… and once I started keeping track of the time, it took me five hours of following doggie footprints to get out of the park.
Of course, when I finally reached the end, I wasn’t where I entered. And this part of “town” was so flat and so empty, besides the highway, that I had no clue which direction I should go in. And like a dummy, I didn’t get a map so I had no Swedish Geography stored in my head.
One of my Swedish friends from down in Georgia greatly disapproved of my adventure. Apparently you’re not supposed to go wandering around, getting lost when snow starts to come down. Hey, I made it out alive, right?
Anyway, that sign up there is the sign that I found in the part of the park that I managed to exit. A twenty-or-so-minute bus ride got me back to Nyköping center, thank god.

Well, Ohio was fun… really fun. I got to learn about a business, I got to take pictures all day long, and I got to be around horses. I don’t think I could ask for more in an actual paying job. Honestly, I’m kind of glad I didn’t get hired at one of those typical work-places. I’m learning so much more about what I want to do!
I’m working on taking more photos at the moment… and it’s kind of tricky. Whenever I have a free moment, I’m going to print some more images and try to get some film and develop it… I believe I have most of the chemistry for that… maybe not. I don’t know.
So with that, I am going to leave with you with a quick glimpse of a dogwood tree in our backyard.

I’m off to Ohio for a horse show this weekend at around 5pm… so if anyone’s having a look at this, there won’t be updates for the next few days. I think I’ll be back super early on Monday morning.
Anyway… I’ve been doing some travel thinking lately and have been talking to the family about my travel thinking. I found this program called “Edge of the Outback” through AustraLearn last year and have really wanted to go. Yes, I just got back from Florence in late April… but for those of you who are travelers, you know what the bug feels like. And Australia has been calling me ever since I departed in July 2004.
So… this program: it’s three weeks long and focuses on (what else?) photography. I believe the exact words were “A Photographic Journey Through Rural Australia is a three-week course exploring a regional Australian outback landscape through photography. ” Anyway… it includes a five day field trip through a part of the Australian outback and a gallery/show at the end of the term. I think that’s all worth the cost, don’t you? I guess the program runs through La Trobe University down in Mildura… that’s an area I definitely did not get to see when I had my week-and-a-half visit.
If I can actually pull through with this, which I really think I will (I just have to seriously save my money), I’ll be leaving on 9 July, 2010 and will be coming back to the states somewhere around 1 August. I would like to see a friend up in Brisbane if that’s at all possible… so I’ll see what everything costs and how I can manage what I want to do with what I’ll have to do.
And if this works out exceedingly well, maybe I’ll meet some photographers over there who want to hire someone, who can give an internship, or who I can ask for help. Right now, my goal is to go to graduate school over there… at least, live in the Land Down Under.
And what’s more? One of my good friends might be going down for a week or two as her graduation present to herself. Two great possibilities are staring m straight in the face… I really hope I can work all this out.

Yeah… we’re all pretty much goofy at horse shows, and this was the first one I’ve been to since I’ve come back from Italy. It’s fun when you’re with the right people, riding, and watching. Much, much different from my school shows… though those are fun in a different way. I must say, it was fun being goofy again in a different sort of non-Italy way.
