Georgia, I Forgot About You

Archive for August, 2009: Saturday, August 29th, 2009

A few things I forgot about going to school in the south:
- People say “y’all” a lot
- Free soccer games pretty much rock the world
- Bring a hairdryer because the humidity won’t let your hair dry on its own
- Lots of noise-making bugs, which make me happy at night
- Schroeder’s on Friday nights followed by a large helping of Chick Ranch
- Really good friends, which usually equal very good entertainment
- Krogers and not Wegmans

I’ve been to Niagara Falls so many times it’s almost ridiculous…. Maid of the Mist has seen me twice and every time I go it’s always exciting to get absolutely soaked.

After a four hour drive west to Cleveland, Ohio and a ten hour drive south to north west Georgia, I think it’s safe to say that I’m done driving for large amounts of time for the next week or two. The drive through Kentucky was beautiful, though, and I would love to explore the state more. And the horses probably make my biased.
Anyway… today is my first day of classes. Oddly enough, the inner nerd in me is excited to break in my empty 50 cent notebooks, to look over my syllabi, and to wander around campus keeping my eye out for people I know. Being back in Georgia after living in Florence, Italy for four months is weird. I realized how much I missed the trees and grass, but no one is speaking Italian and not everyone at the school is on a first name basis.
Bummer.
I start my classes at noon today, along with the running around trying to find “important people” to discuss things that should have been discussed over the summer. Tomorrow I have to unwillingly get myself up earlier for my 9:30 British Literature class.
So that’s that. I’m going to try my hardest to keep updating – a lot of ceramics will replace my photography for now, but don’t think that I won’t be working with the cameras. My medium format Yashica-Mat needs to see Georgia through its lens for the first time.

My parents and I went on a guided tour across Scotland and this is one of the sights we got to see a couple of hours after crossing the highland “border.” Basically, I could live here if it weren’t so cold. Misty, moody, brown, yes. But cold? No.

Pick your five favorite TV shows to watch then start answering the questions – don’t cheat!

1. True Blood
2. Firefly
3. LOST
4. Rescue Me
5. Hell’s Kitchen

01. Who’s your favourite character in 2?
Probably Mal because he’s sarcastic, grumpy, the captain, and is nicknamed “captain tight pants.” N.F. has a nice ass, so the whole tight pants thing works very well.

02. Who’s your least favourite character in 1?
Tara. She just pisses me off. She preaches to her mom about being a better person then she goes and gets a DUI and is a selfish, mean spirited bitch.

03. What’s your favourite episode of 4?
It’s been a while, but the funniest one I can think of is when the guys all decide to take a bet on who has the biggest penis.

04. What’s your favourite season of 5?
The one that’s going on right now – THE DRAMA!

05. Who are your favourite ship in 3?
Sawyer and Kate – though Kate doesn’t deserve Sawyer… Sawyer needs a girl who can make up her damn mind… but it’s better than Kate and Jack. Charlie and Claire would’ve been cute together too…

06. Who are your antiship in 2?
I can’t really antiship anyone in Firefly… Zoe and Wash are amazing, Mal just wants Anara so badly he doesn’t know what to do with himself, and Simon and Kayleigh are simply made for each other. Jayne will always be alone hahaha.

07. How long have you watched 1?
I just saw the first season a couple of weeks ago an am now incredibly anxious for the 2nd season to come out on DVD since I don’t have HBO.

08. How did you become interested in 3?
It was the big to-do thing when season 1 came out… a year after it aired, I started watching it with my Jbles at school and got majorly sucked into the realm of “The Island.”

09. Who’s your favourite actor/actress in 4?
Hands down Denis Leary.

10. Which do you prefer: Season 1 of 2 or 5?
Two for sure.

11. Which show have you seen more episodes of, 1 or 3?
Three… it’s been out longer.

12. If you could be anyone from 4, who would you be?
I’m too chicken to be a fire fighter, so none of those guys. I’m not a whore so probably none of the flings the guys have. And definitely not the wife of Senor Leary because I really never want to have kids. I’ll pass.

13. How would you kill off your favourite character in 1?
I have two favorites! Bill: Drag him out into the light or shove him in front of other vampires and say “KILL HIM!” Sam: He’s easy, just shoot him.

14. Give a random quote from 1?
“Yes, I had sex with Bill and it was Fantastic!”

16. Would a 3/4 crossover work?
Hahahaha… NYC firefighters moving through time and getting chased by a giant smoke monster while suffering from PTSD from 9/11? I would totally watch that crossover!

17. Pair 2 characters in 1 that would make an unlikely but strangely okay couple.
Lafayette and Eric

18. Has 5 inspired you in any way?
Other than Gordon Ramsay’s immense hottness, it gives me ideas about food to cook?

19. Overall, which show has a better cast, 2 or 4?
Hard to judge – the characters and plots are SO incredibly different from each other and everyone was cast perfectly for their parts. I’ll give ‘em both a tie ’cause I can’t choose.

20. Which has better theme music, 3 or 5?
Definitely five. The intro. music to Hells Kitchen is disgustingly groovy and I always get it stuck in my head.

I got a little carried away with myself while I was watching a friends’ house, horses, and dogs. Basically, the sunlight got really pretty and I wanted to take some new self portraits of myself. Maybe expect one or two more to pop up this week since I don’t really have time to go out and seriously take photos like I would like to.

That’s Daisy up there… she is one of the three puppies that were born a few weeks ago at the barn I ride at. Now all three of them are gone, all to good homes. I must say I definitely like having puppies out there more than I like them moving away.
I’ve been busy lately, mostly riding and going to horse shows taking photos. Now that the last week and days have arrived before school starts back up, I’m much busier than ever. I’ve been going out to the barn to help out and ride frequently and I’ve been thinking about things I need to pack in order to go back to school. The last three weekends have involved traveling, locally and not-so-locally, for horse show photography and now I’m in that stage where I want my head to just melt out ooze at night.
Because of said desire, I’ve been watching True Blood – a show that a friend and friends of a friend have suggested and have been addicted to it. It’s bad… but at least it’s better than Twilight. I’ve also purchased three Decemberists CDs which I’ve been listening to today with great pleasure.
So as you see, the artistic progression has slowed down a little bit, but I’m still alive, still doing, and still thinking, and creating (in its own way, really). Hope that you few readers out there are having as lovely a time as I am!
