A Scandinavian Adventure?

Archive for September, 2009: Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

I had this extremely bizarre dream about Sweden last night and flashes of it keep popping up in my head throughout the day while I’m taking notes in my international science classes. Now, I could run off on a tangent asking why these flashes of a weird dream are popping up throughout my day, but I’m not going to.
Recently, two of my good friends and I have been discussing two trips, you know, just for us girls. One of which was a Scandinavian Adventure – we would travel across Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland. And the more we talk about it, the more we want to go (obviously). Really, though, how awesome would that be? Maybe we can hit up Iceland on the way back to the states or something like that.
It’s weird… I went to Sweden back in March when it was still cold up there and I successfully got lost in an almost-blizzard for six hours in the middle of a nature reserve. Unlike Italy and Australia, which I’ve constantly obsessed about since the moments I’ve left, Sweden’s presence has snuck up on me. It’s taken, what? six or seven months for me to be like “I should totally go back there!” But yeah, Sweden is awesome. I only saw a part of Stockholm in half a day, which is scandalous, so I feel obligated to go back there in order to do Scandinavia’s capital some justice. And the fact that two of my good friends want to go with me makes it all that much better.
Of course, our other, somewhat cheaper option is to take someone’s car and just drive around the country (by which I mean the US) for a little while with a tent or two in the back, some clothes, some money, and oh – my cameras. Could you imagine how much fun we would have and how much trouble we would cause along the way? I can’t, and that’s why I would love to find out one day before I turn 30.
So those are my dreams and some potential plans for the future. I say potential plans because I really see the three of us pulling this off like no one’s business.
But… if you and a couple of your good friends could take a wild and crazy international trip together, where would you like to go?

Last week was the week I entered these photographs into an exhibition close to my school. They will be on display in a hospital gallery for a few weeks and will be for sale to anyone who might be interested. All of this means that I have to get matboard and frames for the pieces sometime this week before they are hung. While I am incredibly excited about this, it’s another thing I have to add to my weekly list. There should be images from the hanging, however, and if there is an opening I will definitely have photos from that as well.

I also found out last week that a logo I designed for Berry College’s Mountain Day was a winning logo design. This design will be used on all of the Mountain Day T-shirts and any other merchandise the college decides to use it for.

I made hand-squeezed lemonade the other day for the first time ever and am quiet impressed with the way it came out. Basically I chopped up a whole bag of lemons and squeezed the juice into my giant pitcher. Mind you, I don’t have a citrus juicer, I just used a knife and my hands. While doing this I had about 7 cups of hot water boiling on the other side of the kitchen. After I squeezed all the lemons, I left the actual fruit part in the pitcher for the hot water to soak up.

Once the water boiled, I poured it into the pitcher just like when you make iced tea then poured sugar in ’till it tasted good. After it cooled a little bit, into the fridge it went. Now I have lemonade and can pretend it’s still summer outside.

When I blogged back in the day, I used to listen to music on the computer constantly. After living in dorm rooms with other people I haven’t been doing that so much – but Crawl is what I happen to be listening to right now. Thanks Elissa.

This reeses peanut butter cup is basically what my life has been like for the past week. School is nuts this semester and I’m looking for a regular riding schedule so I don’t have to to think about it so much. But yeah – there’s papers, about 150 (not joking) pages of textbooks to read per night plus those things they call lectures to go to. And I have to eat ’cause, you know, that’s important.
Wednesday I made the decision of going down to Florida to spend Labor Day with my cousin… so off I go as early as possible tomorrow morning.
Oh – and I’ve thrown a whole bunch of pots since classes started, so I’m hoping to sell them on Etsy.com once they’re finished and I get photos of them uploaded to ze computer.
Other than that I’ve been thinking about Italy and Australia almost obsessively and have just discovered that all the people I used to see last year aren’t seen that often. It’s weird… very weird.
And speaking of weird, I watched Labyrinth for the first time in YEARS last night and bought it today. Something about lots of Jim Henson puppets and David Bowie just made my college years get that much better.
