Senior Thesis Musings
Archive for March, 2010: Thursday, March 25th, 2010
So… I’ve been thinking a lot about my senior thesis that I’ve got to present, hang, and do all that fun stuff for this upcoming November-ish time. Really, I wish I had a whole year to work on this and wish that the school would give me a grant or something so I could really do what I would absolutely LOVE to do… which is get in my car, drive across the country, take pictures of almost everything and journal about it then work my journal into my statement.
I’ve wanted to go on a solo cross country road trip since, well, forever. But really this blog inspired me to really do it while I’m basically uncommitted to work, people, etc. Vespa Vagabond is a blog that is written by the same woman who updates The Daily Coyote. Really, just looking at her photographs and reading about what she experienced is enough to make almost anyone want to go on an adventure. I just couldn’t do it on a Vespa because I’m too much of a wuss when it comes to cold and I’ve never driven anything motorcycle-esque before. And I would like to take a few more items of clothing and a few more cameras with me. Yeah, I’m not as hardcore.
But really, if I could pull that off for a thesis, that would be awesome. If I wasn’t already going on a super-fantastic trip to Australia this summer I totally would take that month and photograph as much as I could photograph. Really. But Australia presented itself at exactly the right time and I’m almost happier I’m going there.
Still, this does not resolve my problem concerning lack of senior thesis. I’ve thought about a few things but nothing has popped out so far. Below is a list of what I’ve been pondering over (loosely and specifically) and I would definitely appreciate any suggestions or ideas if anyone out there has any!

Some Florida camping fun during Spring Break.

Thursday, March 18th, 2010While I’m in Florida right now trying to get warm, only not really get that much warmer, I promised some Spanish Moss photos from Savannah. Here they are.
We’re going camping tomorrow and then I will most likely update after that.
And just a random photo of the swamps that I’m quickly falling in love with.

Elissa and I drove to Savannah today. I was sad when my morning greeted me with a thunderstorm as I would much rather drive through sunshine than drive through rain. By the time we left, the weather had cleared up, but when we hopped onto Route 16 there was this GIANT, TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR! I mean, I’m surprised I didn’t see two of every animal marching up onto a giant boat. When Elissa took the picture above on my phone, I was going about 35 mph with my emergency blinkers on going down a bloody interstate!
But Savannah is lovely! I’ve never been here before and as we entered the neighborhood of our friend, Kat, I was like “Hell yeah, this is the south!” Spanish moss is everywhere… and just incase you don’t know this, I LOVE SPANISH MOSS LIKE NO ONE’S BUSINESS! I’ll have to get some photos of it over here since it’s so gorgeous!
I think we’ll go gallivanting around tomorrow – possibly get some great photographs of the city that is basically my definition of the south. Just wanted to let the world know that I’m alive after the almost hurricane we drove through!

Tomorrow is the start of the last college spring break I will ever have! While I wish I was cruising down to Mexico with some of my friends, I’m glad I opted for the more laid back, driving option that presented itself earlier in the semester. My friend, Elissa, and I are driving down to Savannah for a couple of days to see a friend who graduated last year. On Sunday we will be driving down to Florida to see my cousin, Liz.
While I’m not quite sure what’s going to be going on this next week, I’m excited to bask in some sunshine and relax on the beach. I know the water won’t be warm enough to swim in, but that’s okay… IT’S THE BEACH!
I thought I would post while I had the chance. Two quizzes today in my Light Media and Digital Imaging classes, a test tomorrow in Abnormal Psychology, and a part of a thesis paper due on Sunday… my brain is basically going crazy right now!
Expect a post or two, possibly, this upcoming week. I’m sure there will be more photos than one would know what to do with. I also have some artwork I need to post eventually… I just need to get it scanned and/or photographed.
Anyone up to anything fun this upcoming week?

Normally I would be slightly embarrassed (yes, only slightly) to post this photo of myself on my blog… but not today. Though my week has been extremely stressful full of things that I’ve absolutely had to get done, no excuses, it has also been a happy week.
Saturday I won the Advanced Western Horsemanship class at the show my school put on, and Sunday I won Novice Western Horsemanship Regionals… I think I’m more excited about the fact that I won a belt buckle instead of the fact that I won regionals. But whatever… the buckle is sitting on my windowsill so it can sparkle in the sun… a little.
I also got my itinerary for my Australia trip this summer, which can be read by all here. Basically I got excited about the fact that we’re trekking through the outback – a part of Australia I never saw the first time I went. Southern Australia will be cold in the mornings and afternoons in July, but that’s okay – I’ll hopefully end my trip in Brisbane where it’ll be warm and sunny.
I got a phone call from my summer bosses who run the horse show photography company asking me if I wanted to work fro them this summer. Basically I freaked out and said “Hell Yeah” while typing an e-mail to them with my summer schedule. Seriously, that summer job is better than your summer job.
OH! OH! AND DON’T FORGET! I’m running my first stoneware firing on Sunday. It’s an all day job, and I’ll be hanging out in the clay studio for, like, 16 hours while this thing goes on, but I’ve persuaded friends to come and visit. This and I’ll have time to work on my paper due Thursday. But yeah… clay firings are awesome and expect to see photos up during the day from my phone here and on facebook.
Well, that was an overloaded entry for not writing in such a long time. I guess I’ll head back to doing what I’m actually supposed to be doing and actually get some homework done.
P.S. That photo was taken after an intramural soccer game.
