Bike Adventure No.1
Wednesday, June 9, 2010

I got a new bike for my birthday last week, and I must say, it’s a pretty awesome bike. It’s called a Caramel (or something of the sort), changes through it’s gears like nobody’s business, and is basically the most awesome bike I’ve ever had. Of course, it’s one of those cruisers so it’s super comfortable to ride around on.
A few days ago I decided to go on a ride for as long as I could. Granted, I forgot food and water back at my house, so it didn’t go on for nearly as long as I wanted it to… but the photos that are posted are little excerpts of what I got to see along the way. I live right down the road from the Erie Canal so it’s quite a convenient place to go to when you want to spend a nice afternoon outside.

Of course, since that day I’ve wanted to go on another, longer ride with food and drink and possibly a book or something but I’ve either been too busy with stuff I absolutely HAVE to do around the house or it’s been raining. Welcome to north-western New York people. Seriously, the rain and the clouds have been annoying the hell out of me. Not to mention the mid-50s to upper-60s temperatures IN JUNE. Guh! Hopefully it all ends soon as I would like to go outside and bask in the sunshine doing whatever.

“A Cup of Cold Coffee, Yesterday’s Mail”
Saturday, June 5, 2010
Wow… it’s been a long time… I can hardly believe it!
Well, I’m definitely back in New York now and have been for the past few weeks. I miss the beach quite a bit, but until I can afford to move all of my things, find a job, and get my own place, the beach will only be a place I can visit for a while.
I have been working though at some horse shows with the photography company that I worked for last year. It’s really been fun and I’m learning a lot. We spent four or five days in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania working long hours and sleeping maybe four per night but it was totally worth it. We stayed busy at the show, especially during the last day, and I learned a lot. Besides, Appaloosa shows are always fun to go to!
I got a new bike today that will probably lead to more adventuring this upcoming week when the weather’s nice. Of course, there should be some photographs coming along the way sooner or later of such adventures. I still have some from Key Largo, but they haven’t been developed yet… and I’ve got some black and whites from my cheap-o lomography fish-eye camera that I need to develop down in my basement.
But yes, I am alive and am sorry for the lack of update to anyone who might actually be checking (thanks by the way!). More photographs and writings to come soon!

Thoughts from the Beach
Friday, May 14, 2010
Before I run away from the inside and go lay on the beach again, I think I need an update on what this past week has “made” me ponder. With my vacation coming to an end in Florida, I’ve noticed that I’ve been one of those lazy beach people who runs into the water, comes out, dries off, runs into the water again… it’s a vicious cycle. Anyway… all that time by myself in one of the most relaxing environments possible makes me think.
This semester I’ve put a lot of my art on hold. I was way too busy to do anything, really, for myself in terms of photography and ceramics these past five or six months, which is really sad because this time last year I came back from Italy doing NOTHING but art for MYSELF.
I really don’t know what to do anymore… for the rest of college and/or for the rest of my life! I DO KNOW, however, that I am going to grad school for photography. But really, I sort of came up with a mental list of things that I know I would be totally happy doing: traveling the world and photographing for a travel magazine (two awesome passions in one), moving somewhere and doing that whole fashion photography thing, opening up a studio and joining with another artist or two and living solely off of workshops and commissions… the list goes on and on. I want to drive across America and photograph ALL of it (and I do mean all of it!), I want to do the same in Australia (only that’s not such a wonderful idea considering the environment over there), I want to make journals of all this crazy and publish a book about it – all the stupid things I tend to get myself into (like getting lost in Sweden during a blizzard).
I have all the time in the world to do this stuff, but I need a job first so I can, you know, actually DO IT. I’m not all for finding an office job and being all like “blah dee da… SALARIES!” No… I need to be wandering, meeting new people, seeing new things, doing all that crazy stuff. I’ve had a taste of it this summer. Even if Florida isn’t exotic and brand spankin’ new, that’s okay. I’ve met a bunch of crazy awesome people and have done quite a few pretty amazing things no matter how little or big they may be.
Anyway… this is what the beach does to me. If only the beach could be tossing me up money so I can go do it ALL, that would be fantastic haha.

Vacation #1
Tuesday, May 11, 2010
It’s the last undergrad summer I will ever have… I’m going to squeeze everything out of it that I possibly can. I’ve been staying in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida for the past few days as readers may or may not have noticed from my previous posts. But right now, I am in Miami visiting my cousin and her boyfriend for a couple of days. Unfortunately I have to leave sometime tomorrow because I’ve got to make it back up to New York before the 20th… somehow.
But yeah, that’s the not-so-exciting bit. Today was nuts! My cousin and I went sea kayaking for nearly four hours today! Mind you, I’ve only really ever canoed and only have ever taken kayaking lessons in an indoor pool during high school. I know the safety basics… that’s it. Kayaking through mangrove forests and in open water is much different than a high school swimming pool. Though, it wasn’t nearly as difficult as I thought it would be. I really did think I would fail epically… BUT I DIDN’T! We saw giant birds, lots of fishes, crabs, lobsters, sponges, and all sorts of fun things. And we got to go swimming somewhere in the middle of the trip!
I’ve got pictures on my disposable, water-proof camera, but I’ve got to get them developed at some point in order to post them.
Though my stay in Miami has been short, it’s been very enjoyable. It’s very different from other big cities I’ve been in in the states in terms of who lives where and why things cost so damn much… but whatever. It’s Miami… it’s warm and it’s not snowing!

The Beginning of Summer
Wednesday, May 5, 2010

Here’s my little travel map that I tend to put up whenever I go somewhere (the upcoming Australia adventure should be fun!). I peaced out of school as early as I could from outside of Rome, Georgia. Right now I’m in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and will be heading down to Miami on the 10th for a couple of days. After that I’ll be turning right back around and slowly making my way up to New York with various stops along the way. Sound like fun to you? ‘Cause it does to me!

Proof…
… that Walmart really is evil.

I was looking at my statement and found this waiting for me. If this isn’t proof, I don’t know what would be. Haha.

One Semester Left
Monday, May 3, 2010
**I’ve finally worked out a logical subscription service to any of those who would like to subscribe to this blog and get emails when it’s updated. Look to your right for a link**
I’m done with school… ’till August! It’s weird to think that I’ve only got one semester left as an undergraduate college student and that I’ll actually be graduating and getting that crazy BA degree. WEIRD I TELL YOU!
Needless to say, I don’t have to go back to school until next semester, but I’m still not done. All of my friends have finals this week – I don’t. The only classes I was supposed to have finals in were classes with critiques in which the professor decided not to have a final critique, or I was able to opt out of the exam because I was happy enough with my grade. I still have a couple of projects to complete for my digital imaging class as well as the rest of my term paper to write for my early 20th century art class. This all isn’t so bad though… I’ll be able to finish that paper in about two hours before proofreading it and sending it off.
The end of my semester this past week was INSANE!!!!! We had five firings in the ceramics studio so all the students could have some sort of work to present for their final critique. If you don’t know much about clay firings, we’ve got to watch the kilns all bloody day long so no one gets burned and so nothing bad happens while they’re firing. As we start at 7am and end anywhere between 8pm and 2am, you can imagine how tired we get during just one firing. Now multiply that BY FIVE PEOPLE! Really, though, it’s fun and we always get a good group of people to come around in the evenings to keep ourselves entertained.
Tomorrow I’m heading down to Florida to see my crazy cousins. I’ll be outside of Jacksonville for a while and plan to head down to Miami for a couple of days before driving back up to New York in bits and pieces. Expect one of my lame maps to pop up at some point… it’ll be fun! Haha.
Anyway, expect updates more and more as I’m officially free! I’ll have many photos from my adventures and will direct you towards my crazy times in Australia and beyond.
